james blunt’s “you’re beautiful” piano to sell at bonhams
A piano that used to belong to pop sensation James Blunt is to be sold at Bonhams in July. The piano was used by Blunt to compose his number one hit “You’re Beautiful” and, from the same “Back to Bedlam” album, “Goodbye my Lover.” The old Chappell upright is expected to fetch £1,000 – 1,500 at Bonhams’ Piano Sale on 16 July at 101 New Bond Street, London.
The piano was sold with the two-bedroom Fulham flat Blunt – whose real name is Blount – lived in with his sister, and was mentioned in the deeds: “The piano on which James Blount composed his first pieces remains on the property and is included in the sale.” The buyers of the flat are the vendors of the piano.
The smash-hit love ballad “You’re Beautiful” reached number one on the American Billboard Hot 100 in 2006, making Blunt the first British artist to top the US singles chart in nearly a decade. According to The Sun newspaper, the song has become the UK’s wedding favourite, and “Goodbye my Lover” the most popular funeral song.
